Mid-term meeting of the GESP project held in Oviedo

In late August 2024, partners of the GESP project gathered in Oviedo, Spain for the mid-term transnational meeting. Hosted by Oviedo Phoenix, the event brought together representatives from all partner organizations to look back on what had been done so far, and to align for the final phase of the project.

Hosted by Oviedo Phoenix, the event brought together representatives from all partner organizations to look back on what had been done so far, and to align for the final phase of the project. The meeting included a round of updates from each partner, sharing experiences, local actions, and reflections.

Our organisation presented its progress on local outreach and podcast engagement. A key part of the discussion focused on the podcast series “Breaking Barriers: Women in Sport”, which by that point had already featured 28 interviews/episodes. Partners reflected on the process—highlighting both successes and challenges.

One of the key points raised was the difficulty in finding guests who felt comfortable speaking in English, especially those outside of high-level competitive sport. While many elite athletes and professionals were eager to share their stories, it took extra effort to include voices from grassroots sport and less-visible roles.

This challenge sparked a broader discussion on representation, accessibility, and how to make sure the podcast remained diverse and inclusive. Beyond the podcast, partners discussed the development of the educational tools (toolkit and guide), as well as upcoming local dissemination events.

The team used the meeting to revisit timelines, align next steps, and leave Oviedo with a clear and coordinated plan for completing the project by 2025.
