Healthy way of life - let's do it!

15.04.2019.

This project took place from March 15th 2019 through December 31st, 2019. The overall assessment shows that the health of young people in our country (Serbia) is solid. However, there are still many causes for concern, such as rising mental stress, alcohol abuse, smoking, poor diet and physical activity, obesity, and sexually transmitted diseases.

Addressing four major risk behaviors - smoking, alcohol abuse, unhealthy diets and sedentary lifestyles can help prevent many chronic illnesses in young people. But to be effective, such efforts must be based on targeted health promotion, prevention and early detection.

Despite the positive results, these activities need to be undertaken. Children and young people are still regular consumers and are exposed to all kinds of attractive products, food and beverage promotions, where packaging does not accurately represent the value of food or misrepresents quality entirely. School curricula do not contain enough information about health problems or they do not include an appropriate physical activity program. In addition, physical activity is not part of the daily routine of one family even if adolescence includes various unhealthy ways of socialization - smoking, alcohol or drug abuse, which leads to dissatisfaction, depression and poor physical health.

Therefore, children and young people are a vulnerable group that should be part of a broader initiative and action.

Applied educational methods

Experienced youth educators will use carefully selected and adopted non-formal educational methods to address the learning needs and profile of participants. The following methods will be used: educator input, discussion, debate (simulation), individual work, small group work with presentations and analyzes.

The project ensures active engagement of participants at all stages. Getting to know the participants and building a team will ensure active contribution of all associates. Reflection groups were also organized as a form of anonymous evaluation to reflect not only practical issues and content, but also reflections on personal achievements. Participants will be encouraged to come up with any idea or suggest a program modification (if feasible).

Among other activities and workshops, participants will have the opportunity to be responsible for implementing a specific part of the program - final workshops, to give them a chance to understand the non-formal learning process and practices that they will apply in their school initiatives in the future.
